The creator of “The Mandalorian,” Jon Favreau, has teased the plot for season 3 of the highly anticipated Disney+ series. The second season had ended with an absolute bang, as we saw the return of Luke Skywalker. Not just any Luke, either. It was him in his prime and was an overall exciting moment for many fans. That finale ended with a heartbreaker that matched the excitement of Luke’s return. Grogu had left with the Jedi Master to train in the ways of the Force.
The Book of Boba Fett had picked ups where the show had left off when Djarin had stolen the spotlight in Chapter 5: “Return of the Mandalorian.” This episode had given insight into what Djarin was up to after parting with Grogu. As we had seen, he was looking for more Mandalorians and, after finding them, a way to be forgiven for removing his helmet. He had broken his clan’s strict creed and received his punishment. Now he must redeem himself, and that redemption can be found at his culture’s origin, Mandalore.
Favreau had teased what to expect for season 3 to Entertainment Weekly. He told them we would be taken back to that planet alongside our bounty hunting hero. Djarin’s experiences in The Book of Boba Fett will lead directly into this third season as he and Mandalore will be the center of focus. With Mandalore coming back into the picture, more Mandalorians will need to join Djarin’s crusade. They’ll bring together the different types of Mandalorians and clans to save what’s left of the planet and reestablish itself as an influential factor in the Galaxy.

Here is what Favreau had to say:
We established in The Book of Boba Fett that there was an opportunity for the Mandalorian to be redeemed because he had transgressed against the creed by removing his helmet. And among his group of Mandalorians that is something that is not permitted. Now, we know that there are other groups of Mandalorians that have different sets of rules. In The Clone Wars, we saw with Dave and also with a character that I voiced, that Mandalorians are very different there. So these different groups are coming together and we are gonna figure out how they all… The nexus point for all of those communities of course is their homeworld from which they are exiled, which is Mandalore.
There have been similar leaks in the past few months that show Djarin paired up with other Mandalorians. With what Favreau had to share, it appears these leaks might be accurate. Djarin has the darksaber, a symbol of leadership in the culture, so it will be interesting to see how he embraces the leadership role. Djarin seeing the other types of Mandalorians and how lax they are with their helmets, may also cause some rift between him and the, in Bo-Katan’s words, over-religious zealots that he ran with in the past.
Grogu will be back with Djarin this season, and there is a chance we’ll see his control and powers in the Force grow alongside him. He’s done something more and more impressive each chance he’s had, so hopefully, we’ll see some more of his insane abilities.
Time will only tell as we anticipate the third season of The Mandalorian. Gian Carlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) has teased that this season will “be off the chain” and bigger and better than anything we’ve seen yet. Fans can anticipate season 3 in February of 2023.
