Netflix’s Squid Game was an extremely successful show; it broke records, won awards, and took the entire world by storm. The story of human desperation to break out of debts and get rich in life was relatable, as was the show’s star, Lee Jung-jae. Squid Game had turned him into a household name across the globe and catapulted him into stardom.
His success in Squid Game had caught the attention of Lucasfilm. Deadline has sources that report he’s joined the Star Wars cast for The Acolyte. The thriller show will be set a few hundred years before the events of The Phantom Menace. It will explore the dark side of the Force during the final days of the High Republic, an era of peace and prosperity in the Galaxy.
Details about his character are still under wraps, as are many other specifics, but Lee’s known co-stars will be Amandla Steinberg and Jodie Turner-Smith. He and Steinberg will be the leads. The show will focus on the dark side and what occurred in the shadows in this era.
In the Star Wars universe the term “acolyte” refers to a Sith apprentice. An acolyte has just begun their journey in learning the Force and are under the tutelage of a more experienced Sith Lord.
The show was announced in December 2020 and will hit the streaming platform sometime in late 2023 or early 2024. The show is still casting and beginning to prepare for production. Some sets have already been built in Shinfield Studios, so filming for the show will start soon.
