Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Movie Gets Delayed

Rogue Squadron would have been the newest movie to the Star Wars franchise since the 2019 finale, The Rise of Skywalker. The idea was to go in an entirely new direction and explore the rest of the galaxy; they wanted the attention away from the Jedi and the Sith. As seen with The MandalorianThe Bad Batch, and The Book of Boba Fett, other parts of the Star Wars universe are starting to get the spotlight, and fans are on board.

Rogue Squadron, the movie to be delayed, is directed by Patty Jenkins, the director of Wonder Woman. She had done a great job with that film and will shift focus for her Star Wars venture. But, before she can take on this task, it looks like she’ll have to follow through with the rest of her commitments.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “sources say the producers and filmmaking team came to the realization that Jenkins’ schedule and other commitments wouldn’t allow for the window needed to make the movie in 2022.”

Rogue Squadron was scheduled to be released in December 2023, but that will most likely change as production has been pushed back due to Jenkins’ busy schedule in 2022. Production for the film will most likely begin in 2023, so fans should expect it hit to theaters in 2024. For the time being, the film is off the production schedule.

Jenkins’ exact schedule is unclear, but Wonder Woman 3 is in development, and she is also working on a Cleopatra feature for Paramount. There is no news regarding another film taking Rogue Squadron’s place until Jenkins’ schedule opens. Others are still in development, like Taika Waititi and Kevin Feige, who will direct their own film.

The Book of Boba FettThe MandalorianObi-Wan KenobiCassian Andor, and The Bad Batch season two will keep fans entertained until the next Star Wars movie hits theaters.
