Rogue One Planets

We have a new movie to look at for the planet series, so let’s take a look at the beautiful planets that were featured in Rogue One, one of the standalone films that gave us some insight into how the rebels got their hands on the death star plans and spark Leia turning to Obi-Wan Kenobi for help.

Lah’mu

Lah’mu is the first planet that we get to see in Rogue One. This is where the Erso family is hiding out from the Empire. The planet is far away from trade routes which contributes to its isolation of the planet. It is in the Outer Rim territories and has rings that are from the ancient moon that once orbited it long before the Clone Wars.

The inhabitants are merely 500 humans that have sought the peace and quiet of the planet during the clone wars and the rise of the empire. Unfortunately for Galen, he could not hide from the empire. No surprise there let’s be honest.

Ring of Kafrene

The next planet is not a planet but it looked super cool so it is Ring of Kafrene. This is where we meet our hero Cassian Andor and where he learns about the Death Star when investigating why shipments of kyber crystals were going all across the Galaxy.

Kafrene was a mining colony and is now a deep-space trading outpost. The founders of Kafrene had hoped to strike it rich in the asteroid belt but found no valuable minerals there.

Wobani

Wobani is the next planet on the list and this is where the Rebel alliance liberates Jyn Erso from Imperial imprisonment. The planet is located in the Mid-Rim of the galaxy and there is not too much going on there except the fact that mostly petty criminals get sent there.

Jedha

Jedha is next up on the list and is a great-looking location. This is a moon that orbits Najedha in the Mid-Rim of the Galaxy. The imperials took control of the moon because of the high number of kyber crystals that were found on this planet. Tarkin would not allow Krennec to destroy the entire moon with his new weapon, and so the city Jedha was destroyed after enough kyber crystals were taken from it.

Jedha’s ancient structures were some of the earliest examples of architecture known to exist in the galaxy and were home to one of the first civilizations to explore the nature of the force. It is debated among Star Wars scholars that Jedha is the location of the first Jedi Temple and that is where it gets its name.

Eadu

Eadu is the next planet on the list and this is the kyber crystal refinery where Galen Erso and his team are located. This was a stormy planet located in the outer rim territories and had a rocky, rugged landscape. This was the home of the Eadu Energy Conversion Laboratory where Galen and his team had worked to discover the secrets of the kyber crystals and figure out how to harvest the power for the death star. This is also where Jyn’s father Galen dies when the rebel alliance bombed the plant to stop the further construction of the death star.

Scarif

Finally, we are going to look at Scarif. This is a fan favorite because it is just absolutely gorgeous. Just look at that sub-tropical climate. The planet is located in the Outer Rim of the Galaxy. Imagine the peace and quiet the locals had before the Clone Wars and the Empire. Quiet, beautiful beaches, crystal clear waters. This planet is where the Imperial Navy had all of its topic secret plans developed and constructed because this planet was so secluded out in the Outer Rim.

The project that was worked on there was so private that they covered the entire planet with a shield protector that allowed ships to pass through a gate and a clearance. Scarif quickly became the main facility for producing goods for the Imperial War machine. The construction of the Death Star wars also moved from Geonosis to Scarif, where the creation built above its beautiful white sand beaches would be its destruction.

Tarkin made the call and though he did not blow up the entire planet, he destroyed the shield and the citadel, as well as everyone in and around it. The blast was so hot that it boiled the oceans.

We saw Mustafar and Yavin 4 in this movie, as well as a flashback to Coruscant, but those were all already covered and Yavin 4 will be covered in the A New Hope planet series.

  1. Kafrene is more what I remember Kessel being described as in that old EU book. I wish I could remember which one it was.

Still waiting for that in-depth review of Sims 4 Batuu also 😉 😀
