Disney’s most highly anticipated show is getting closer and closer. Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi as we explore his life and journey in solitude on Tatooine. Kenobi went into hiding after Order 66 while simultaneously taking the galaxy’s only hope to his aunt and uncle on that same planet. There, in the harsh deserts of Tatooine, Kenobi watched over Luke and made sure he could grow into his destiny.
When Will the Kenobi Series Release?
The Kenobi series will come out sometime in 2022. There is no official release date yet, but production began in April, so by this time, the filming is well underway. In May, McGregor had revealed that his costume will be different than what the fans may expect. He’ll need to ditch the Jedi robes to blend in with the harsh desert climate and those who inhabit the deserts, cities, and homesteads.
McGregor confirmed last year that the season will consist of six one-hour-long episodes, and it will only be one season.
Who Is In The Kenobi Series?
McGregor will, of course, return as Obi-Wan Kenobi, but a few more familiar faces are confirmed to return. Hayden Christensen will return as Darth Vader. Other familiar faces to Star Wars is Joel Edgarton and Bonnie Piesse, who played the younger Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.
Cast members that are confirmed but unfamiliar to Star Wars are Kumail Nanjiani, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Moses Ingram, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, Sung Kang, Simone Kessel, and Benny Safdie. Their roles are unknown for now. These cast members were confirmed along with Edgerton and Piesse on March 29th by Lucasfilm.
Maya Erskine is another actress who will be in the series. Her role is unknown for now.
There are rumors that two Rebels characters will join the cast, as well. The first is the Fifth brother. As an Inquisitor, his role will be the villain that is tasked with hunting down Kenobi. The Inquisitors are also seen in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which is a bit closer to the timeline that Kenobi will take place.

The second Rebels character rumored to make an appearance is Alexsandr Kallus. Kallus worked for the Empire in the show, and he was often tasked with tracking down Ezra Bridger and the rest of the Ghost crew.
There is also speculation that Liam Neeson will return as Qui-Gon Jinn. He preserved himself as a force ghost and taught those abilities to Yoda. Yoda then taught Kenobi those abilities, and so we may get to see Kenobi communicate with his old master as he lives in solitude.
Also, expect to see Jabba and his goons, Jawas, and Tusken Raiders.
Other Figures Involved
The director of the series is Deborah Chow; she directed episodes three and seven of The Mandalorian‘s first season. Kathleen Kennedy, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor, Michelle Rejwan, and the show’s writer, Joby Harold, will be the executive producers. The Casting director is Carmen Cuba.
The show will use the same VFX as seen in The Mandalorian. The technology utilizes LCD walls to create the background and environments. It brings the acting to life and allows the actors to become completely immersed in the scene.
Where in the Timeline is This?
The show will take place ten years after Revenge of the Sith and nine years before A New Hope. This also puts it five years after Jedi: Fallen Order, where we see the Inquisitors hunt down Cal Kestis.
This gives the Inquisitors a lot of time to hunt down and find some Jedi around the galaxy, so by this point, Kenobi will be very alone.
What Is the Plot?
The plot of this show has not yet been revealed. Disney and Lucasfilm have been super tight about the information and what they will allow McGregor, Christensen, or even Edgerton to spill. With that being said, the show will most likely follow Kenobi as he stays on Tatooine and protects Luke and his family.
There is a good chance that Vader will be looking for both of them. Kathleen Kennedy hinted at Vader and Kenobi clashing once again, “This will be the return of the century.” Hopefully, we will get a lightsaber fight between the two, similar to the theatrics of Revenge of the Sith.
Flashbacks are another possibility of the show. They could tie in past stories to Kenobi’s current self and state of mind in the series. He could reminisce about the good times he had with Anakin and the rest of the Jedi Order.
It would be cool to see Kenobi take a quick trip to Dagobah to see Yoda but with only six episodes and one season, it looks like the show will intensely focus on Kenobi as he somehow survives the harsh Tatooine desert climate.
