Disney+ has recently released a bunch of vintage Star Wars content. Among them are The Faithful Wookie, Ewoks, and a few others. These are some fantastic pieces that every Star Wars fan should check out. These were all a surprise, but a welcomed one at that. They join the rest of the new Star Wars content on Disney+, and this is some great new content for any younger Star Wars fan who didn’t have access to tapes of these.
I know I’ve tried to watch a bootleg version of The Christmas Special, and the quality was just too horrendous that it wasn’t even worth it.
THE FAITHFUL WOOKIE
The Faithful Wookie is an animated short that premiered in 1978 as a part of the Star Wars Holiday Special. A fantastic piece of history, this is where we get our first introduction to Boba Fett. Little did they know at the time, he would become one of the most iconic figures from Star Wars.
The animation is, of course, outdated, but for what it’s worth, it is well drawn, clear, and a nice flashback to earlier animation and cartoons. The story is very fun to follow; there are some amusing dramatic moments as the suspense builds around the solution to Han Solo, Chewbacca, and “the sleeping virus.” The beginning is very dramatic, and it helps to set the tone and get the audience intrigued quickly. It also includes some brief yet interesting Star Wars mythology with the talisman.
C-3PO is his delightful self, as well as R2-D2. The animation for Han Solo was a bit more of a caricature, but it was still just as amusing as the plot. Luke, Leia, and Chewbacca all look incredible in this animation, but Boba Fett was certainly the best and most iconic, especially with his Amban phase-pulse blaster.
The planet Panna is host to an interesting colored sea, but it fits the idea of the expanse Star Wars universe and all the different sort of planets and atmospheres it hosts. Overall, this animation is a pleasantly entertaining adventure to a strange purple planet with giant monsters, our classic heroes voiced by the original cast, and the iconic Boba Fett himself.
