Hello and welcome to the Sandcrawler Star Wars planet series. If you have stuck with me through the prequels, the OT, and the standalone films then I cannot thank you enough, if you are new then welcome! Please consider hitting that subscribe button, but for now, let’s get started on the Force Awakens, our first movie from the sequels.

Jakku

The first planet that we are introduced to in the Force Awakens is Jakku.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens..Rey (Daisy Ridley)..Ph: David James..© 2015 Lucasfilm Ltd. & TM. All Right Reserved.

This is the planet that Rey lived on before she made her escape with Finn. It is a harsh desert environment and the locals are just as tough as the climate. Rey, as we know, is a scavenger and she travels the landscape looking to find some parts to trade for survival.

The planet is located in the Western Reaches of the Inner Rim and was introduced to Star Wars Canon via the book Aftermath. This is home to the Galactic Civil War where the New Republic had won control over the galaxy, until the uprising of the First Order.

This planet has a similar history to Tatooine, it was not always a barren desert. The planet originally was home to a plethora of trees and water, though it is unknown exactly how and when the planet had turned into the ideal playground for Anakin.

Takodana

The next planet that we see in The Force Awakens is Takadona. This is the outlaw hangout planet that was run by Maz Katana.

This is a lush, green planet in the mid rim of the galaxy and was full of plains, forests, and seas. The planet is known as the last taste of civilization for those who are heading out to the outer rim of the galaxy and for those heading inward, it is the last taste of frontier living.

Thousands of years before the events of The Force Awakens, there was a battle between the Jedi and the Sith, and Maz Katana’s castle would be built upon that ancient battleground.

Interestingly, Ahsoka Tano spent some time here to lay low and hide after the events of Order 66.

D’Qar

D’Qar is the next planet on the list and this is where the resistance is hiding out. This planet is on the outer rim and is surrounded by an asteroid belt. Leia and her team had found this planet a good location to try and gather while they plan the next move on the First Order.

The planet is lush and host to green jungles, forests, and plains. There was no intelligent life native to the planet and so the Resistance had no issues with moving in their gear and finding refuge.

StarKiller Base / Ilum

Ilum is next on the list. This is the planet that the Starkiller base was turned into. Located in the unknown regions we could see the changes in Fallen Order as the Imperial Army began digging a trench and collecting the kyber crystals that were found in abundance there.

This planet was sacred to the Jedi and many Jedi made their pilgrimage there to find a kyber crystal for their lightsaber, but Sidious and his team of scientist found a way to pervert the energy and strength of the kyber Crystal in the death star and found an even more powerful way in the core of the planet.

Poe Dameron had found and exposed a weakness in the super killer planet and blew it up effectively destroying the ultimate weapon the First Order had. Unfortunately, they were unable to blow it up before it destroyed a few planets in the Hosnian system.

There are all the planets to look at for The Force Awakens.
