The Star Wars Skywalker Saga is coming to an end with the release of the newest film, The Rise of Skywalker. Fans are eager to see how this final movie will play out and if it will be a saving-grace for The Last Jedi, the movie that had fans debating everywhere and created a divide, even larger than the sequel did. After the success of the show Game of Thrones, the two directors, Benioff and Weiss, have been extremely sought after. GoT was an absolute hit and had fans going crazy over it. Unfortunately, they couldn’t finish strong and the last season was a huge bummer for fans and critics. Everyone agreed that it felt rushed.
What was the Benioff and Weiss Star Wars trilogy about?
Disney had made a deal with them and confirmed that they would be making a whole new trilogy of Star Wars movies that will be completely separate from the Skywalker Saga. Our little Jawa sources have told us that the show was rumored to be about the founding of the Jedi and its early days. It was set to be more than 6,000 years before that Battle of Yavin and tell the stories of new characters. It would explore the origins of a group of force users and their formation of the “Je’daii Order” and how a series of wars drove them to create it. It was kept extremely secret until today.
The Rumors About the Why Benioff and Weiss left
The news had released that they would be stepping away from the project to put all of their attention into Netflix. The two apparently were offered 250 million by Netflix to work exclusively for them. There have been rumors discussing that this offer topped Disney’s and that was the reason they walked. But, they are offered much more freedom in the direction they would like to go and ideas that they would like to pitch. It will be a 5-year deal and it is one of the highest ever. HBO confirmed the Game of Thrones spin-off show House of Targaryen that will take place 300 years before the Game of Thrones timeline and tell the story of the Targaryen conquest in Westeros.
There have also been other rumors that the two simply don’t want to do it because they are afraid of the backlash they would receive from Star Wars trilogy fans. They have been extremely hard on the actors and directors in the past few years with Disney releasing The Force Awakens, A Solo Story, and The Last Jedi, which all took hits from fans. Benioff and Weiss took a lot of backlash from their final season to Game of Thrones and they probably don’t want to go through the same thing Game of Thrones fans had put them through.
Other sources reported that they walked away because it was too difficult to work with Disney and they wouldn’t let their creativity flow. Everyone knows Disney has strict rules when it comes to what appears on screen and that the original script will go through dozens of changes before the first day of filming, but the team had reported it was overbearing and that they made it impossible for Benioff and Weiss to freely create a new story to be told.
There have been tons of rumors surfacing why they may have left the project, but the most realistic is that CEO Kathleen Kennedy didn’t like the idea that the two would be working on Star Wars and the Game of Thrones Netflix Spin-off simultaneously. She understands that what the Star Wars fan base has been through, we deserve some great movies that have the complete attention of the directors. What do you guys think about this?
