These open-world games keep growing; the maps get more complex, the weapons improve, and the combat gets smoother with each release. Star Wars: Outlaws looks to raise the bar even higher with its rumored massive planets. Multiple planets, too. Each contains its unique environment, population, missions, and side quests.
In an interview with Edge Magazine, the creative director of Star Wars: Outlaws, Julian Gerighty, compared the size of the game’s hand-crafted planets with areas in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, another Ubisoft open-world blockbuster. A famously large game that allowed players to explore ancient Greece, it looks like they will try their hand at creating sci-fi planets rather than historical maps.
The giant game will not be entirely overwhelming, though. IGN reported that the developers promise the game won’t be a 300-hour epic. They want to give the players something exciting and not too long. There is no released runtime for the game yet, but fans can rest easy knowing they won’t need to spend ridiculous hours to beat Outlaws.
The game will occur between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, a pivotal time in the Galaxy. Also, a time that opens the door to running into some of our favorite heroes and villains from the OT. The single-player experience will focus on Kay Vess, a scoundrel and thief. In the increasingly difficult Galaxy to survive, we will get first-hand experience of what it takes and what it’s like to run from the Empire, the Rebels, and local law enforcement.
The exciting era will leave a lot of options for fans, especially with the outlaw meter; just like the Red Dead Redemption 2 Honor System, Star Wars: Outlaws will feature a meter that will allow fans to choose just how bad they want to be, their choices will play a role in the game’s outcome, missions, and interactions with NPCs. Fans can look forward to taking missions from Jabba the Hutt or betraying him and running from bounty hunters sent by the vengeful Hutt.
Expect the massive, but not too massive, game to release in 2024. Don’t forget to enter your email to keep up with the latest and greatest Star Wars news.
