Thrawn’s Return Is Confirmed

Thrawns Return in Ahsoka

Ahsoka, the show focused on the ex-Jedi, will explore more of the Galaxy far, far away in the same era as the already hit show, The Mandalorian. Now that the Galaxy is governed by the New Republic, we will explore a time that has intrigued fans since the Expanded Universe novels. With Disney giving fans new, official canon, this is the perfect opportunity to set up the rise of the First Order and take the time to answer questions.

The teaser trailer shows Ahsoka Tano reuniting with her friends from Rebels, the animated show created by Dave Filoni. Their journey will pick up where they left off as they look for Ezra Bridger, the Padawan turned Jedi. His fate was similar to Thrawn’s. As The Mandalorian has implied, he survived his journey into the unknown with Ezra and the purrgil.

Eman Esfandi will play Ezra in Ahsoka, and now, at Star Wars Celebration, it’s been confirmed that Lars Mikkelsen will play the epic villain, Grand Admiral Thrawn. This casting feels appropriate, as he voiced the smooth-talking killer in the Rebels series. His alarmingly calm demeanor had struck fear into the hearts of the Galaxy.

His genius and military tactics proved helpful for the Empire, as he almost always remained one step ahead of his opponents. It wasn’t until Ezra’s self-sacrifice that Thrawn met his match. A move that Thrawn would never anticipate, Ezra took advantage of his confidence.

The return of Thrawn will prove to be an exciting moment as the Galaxy expands and explores the stories already established. Fans can look forward to the premiere of Ahsoka in August 2023.
