Disney has a massive lineup of new Star Wars shows for Disney+ and among them is the highly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series. There were tons of rumors a few years back about Kenobi getting a spin-off movie, but after the success of The Mandalorian, it looks that this will be the better route to tell his story.

Here is everything that we know about Obi-Wan Kenobi.

WHO WILL BE WORKING ON THE SHOW

Deborah Chow will be the director of this series. She had directed a couple of episodes for The Mandalorian in season one; both were absolute hits. Her episodes were action-packed and achieved the Star Wars Western vibe. Chow has had a successful career, and she is a great candidate to take the reigns for Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The writer for the series is Joby Harold. He had written Army of the Dead and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. He has some experience under his belt, and with Deborah Chow and Ewan McGregor’s passion for Star Wars, we can confidently say that the show is in good hands.

Executive producers include Chow, Kennedy, Harold, McGregor, and Michelle Rejwan.

CAST

Disney had just recently revealed the cast for Obi-Wan Kenobi, and it looks fantastic. Hayden Christensen will be returning to revive his role as Darth Vader; hopefully, we will see another showdown between the two.

There will be both familiar faces and new ones, but it looks like the cast is an all-star lineup with some serious talent. The Mandalorian did a fantastic job introducing new characters and fleshing out some background characters, so hopefully, Obi-Wan Kenobi will do the same thing.

SHOOTING AND PREMIERE

Disney’s recent release of the cast for Obi-Wan Kenobi also confirmed that production begins in April. It had been pushed back because of COVID-19, just like about every other production in Hollywood, but it looks like we are finally getting back on track.

The announced Book of Boba Fett will release in December 2021, with season 3 of The Mandalorian premiering shortly behind in early 2022. It looks like Obi-Wan Kenobi will need to wait for those to premiere and so we can probably expect it sometime in Spring or Summer 2022.

THE PLOT

Disney has been airtight with the plot and what to expect for this show. We know that it is only one season long with about eight episodes. Fingers crossed each episode lasts forty-five minutes to an hour, and we can explore Kenobi’s story as he survived on the harsh planet.

The show is set to take place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith where we saw Anakin turn to the dark side and Obi-Wan take Luke Skywalker to his family’s home planet on Tatooine. There he watched over Luke from the shadows to make sure that he can grow up and achieve his destiny. We don’t know for sure if the show will take place entirely on Tatooine, but as seen in The Mandalorian there are plenty of things to explore there, plus Jabba the Hutt is still alive.

Kenobi could run into trouble with Jabba and his goons, he could have problems with the pirates that seek the planet’s seclusion, or he could battle off Tusken Raiders and the brutal native animals that live there.

Obi-Wan Kenobi has always been the type of Jedi to help others in need, so it is hard to believe that the show will entirely take place on Tatooine. Surely, Kenobi won’t be able to resist some cries from help in the galaxy and we will be able to explore both familiar and new planets.

Also expect plenty of flashbacks to Kenobi’s past, his adventures, and relationships.
