This is part two the planet series. Episode II Attack of the Clones had given us some new planets to look at, so let’s break those down and take a closer look at those planets. Star Wars: Attack of the Clones introduces to us the clone army that is going to be fighting for the republic against the separatist droid army.

The planets that we visit in the movie are Coruscant, Naboo, Tatooine, Kamino, and Geonosis. The first three planets were covered in the first planet series article, so in this one we will take a closer look at Kamino and Geonosis.

We discover that they were began being cloned and trained about ten years before these events. The clones are great additions to Star Wars lore and the predecessors of the stormtroopers. Much of them grew on us tremendously as we watched the clone wars unfold and we felt the heartbreak of the season finale and watching them turn…. Again.

Kamino

But today we are talking about Kamino. Their home planet and the home to the Kaminoans a race of tall, elegant beings with long necks who were regarded as mysterious species that tended to keep to themselves.

Kamino is an aquatic plant that is located in the outer rim of the galaxy. It was erased from the Jedi archives as seen in episode 2 but later found through Dex, the bar owner that Obi-Wan is good friends with. Luckily for him, they were able to track down Jango Fett and his location through identifying a dart he had used.

The quest had lead Obi-Wan to the discovery of the clone army, where Jedi Master Syfo Dyas gave the order to set up. This hints at the takeover and how these clones will eventually be the downfall of the republic, but that’s for another time.

Kamino is a stormy planet, its constantly raining and there are tons of electrical storms, so the Kaminoans ride local creatures called Aiwha under the water until they near their location where they surface and fly up to the landing pads set high above the waves.
The planet was the home of the main operations area of the galactic republic and served as the main training grounds for clone cadets as well as the location for the clone army’s creation.

Now, I don’t know about you guys, but I have always been curious about how they protected the remote planet from an attack, well, To protect the planet and the cloning facilities from a possible Separatist attack, the Republic established a 13-shipped blockade of ten Venator-class Star Destroyers, one Acclamator-class assault ship, and two Arquitens-class light cruisers.

So they were well covered.

Still, though it was not enough and during the clone wars, this planet was invaded by Ventress and Grievous and an effort to end the production of the clones for good.

It failed and Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Shaak-Ti were all sent to defend Kamino. They saved the day and the clones were still being produced for the war. After the collapse of the republic, though the facilities were shut down and the last batch of clones were to be trained and that was it. Kamino went back to the isolation they liked and probably cashed out so fat on producing so many clones.

Geonosis

Next on the list of new planets is Geonosis, where the droid army is being built in mass number the Geonosians. They are a part of the separatists and want to leave the republic to become their entity, Geonosis is in the outer rim, very close to Tatooine. It was the desert home planet of the Geonosians.

It was also the Confederacy of Independent Systems’ first capital and hosted its major battle droid foundries. It was the site of the First Battle of Geonosis, the opening conflict of the Clone Wars, as well as the subsequent invasion by the Galactic Republic. During and after the war, the Death Star was constructed above the planet.

Five years after the conflict’s conclusion and transformation of the Galactic Republic, the Galactic Empire would garrison the planet heavily and attempt to mine the planet’s asteroids for minerals. At least five years after the Clone Wars, the Empire moved the Death Star to another construction site and the planet was sterilized by the Empire as a security measure, an act which resulted in the virtual elimination of the planet’s native population.

So there are the two new planets that were introduced in Attack of the Clones. The heroes were on Coruscant in the beginning and the two love birds had gone out to Naboo to hide from the assassination attempts on Padme’s life, but those planets were talked about in the first article.

Which is your favorite from this movie? Out of the two, I think I would try my luck with the storms and avoid the Geonosians… well, shoot, too soon…..
Thank you for reading and remember… utinni!

  1. Kamino… Bespin down by the stormy sea. 😀 I like Manaan in KOTOR and SWTOR better because it’s waters are peaceful, BUT the square buildings on Manaan don’t make sense in terms of letting the tide roll around them (seemingly bad engineering design).

Am I the only one that thinks Dex merited further investigation when he knew stuff the Jedi Temple didn’t? 🙂

Good to see another post up. Iv’e been thinking about doing a short series breaking down each of the character classes in SWTOR myself, starting with the Bounty Hunter of course. 😀

      1. Already did the Bounty Hunter class storyline as a post. 🙂 I’ll do the others about 1 a week so as not to overkill my non-Star Wars fan readers (blasphemers, lol).

        1. Lol! That’s smart now you’ll have solid content every week, plus you’re able to branch out further than Star Wars!

          1. I’m only covering the original storyline also. The amount of content after that point is almost the same size, but I haven’t gotten that far yet. 🙂
