We got a very nice surprise this weekend. The Star Wars: Squadrons had leaked on the Xbox store revealing the newest Star Wars video game and what to expect. There wasn’t much shown except for a beautifully done picture with the words “Pilots Wanted” hinting at the fact that the newest addition to the Star Wars video game collection will be a piloting one.

Following the leak on the Xbox store, EA had decided to release the trailer today, Monday, June 15th. That’s right, we went from an accidental leak to a full-on trailer in a matter of two days. That is pretty awesome. This game will be a successor to the previous Star Wars: Rogue Squadron video games.

The last ones to come out, almost 20 years ago, were extremely fun games. The graphics are of course nothing compared to today’s, but back when I was playing Rogue Squadron on the PC it had really stood out. Now, with today’s graphics, it will look almost like you’re out in space fighting the Empire.

The trailer is exciting. It shows that this game will have a lot to offer. From the looks of things already, it seems that we will be able to choose between the New Republic and the Empire. The Rebel pilot in the game had mentioned that she flew for the New Republic and when the Imperial Pilot pulls into the hanger it mentions that he is Empire.

“Pilots, you are the strength of the Empire.”

The game is set to release on October 2nd, so it will be around the time of The Mandalorian season 2. Hopefully, for those who plan on upgrading their console this Holiday, the game will do what Assassins Creed: Valhalla is doing and offer a free next-generation upgrade.

The game will hopefully offer two different campaign modes, there will be the New Republic missions when flying for the New Republic’s Vanguard Squadron and Empire missions when flying for the Empire’s Titan Squadron.

The game will offer a multiplayer mode, 10 v 10 as they go against each other in dogfights all around the Star Wars galaxy. We will know for sure on June 18th when EA reveals the gameplay at the company’s Play Live Event at 4 PM PT / 7 PM ET. All we know for sure is that there will be a gameplay mode where players work together to destroy a capital ship.

The game will offer cross-platform support, similar to the newest Call of Duty. Players will be able to play online with each other, no matter the console type. The game will also ditch the loot box idea and make players earn their upgrades through playing the game, the most fair way to do it.

What are you most excited for? Check out the official trailer below.

More details there. Apparently there’s a single player story mode campaign, 5 vs 5 PvP Online, and bigger full on battles with capital ships, etc…

This LOOKS to be a little more like the X-Wing and TIE Fighter flight sims than Rogue Squadron, which was more of an arcade game.

My main disappointment here is that the emphasis is on multi-player PvP, which is always a train wreck in MMOs. I miss the days of good single player games. At least this SEEMS to have more of a single player mode than X-Wing vs TIE Fighter did.

    1. I can’t wait for the campaign. The flight sims will be even better than the Rogue Squadron (I’m hoping, especially with today’s graphics). The 18th EA announced they’ll do a little play through so I’m excited to see what they have in store for us.
