As season 2 approaches we are hearing more and more news about the characters that will be making an appearance in the show. Supposedly, we are going to finally see a bunch of our favorite animated characters making an appearance on the live screen. Some other characters, familiar to the live-screen are rumored, too.

With all the news about the new Star Wars characters that are going to be making an appearance, the Sandcrawler believes that it may hint to some deeper meaning about where the show may be headed and Djarin’s significance to the galaxy being more than just the best babysitter imaginable (next to IG-11).

The Significant Points of Season 1

There are a few important things about season one that highlight why Din Djarin may become the leader of Mandalore and lead the Mandalorian people out of the ashes and back into the presence they once were.

The title of the show indicates that Din Djarin is a different kind of Mandalorian. He deserves to be singled out and have his story told. The show is not The Child and Djarin's purpose is not to take care of the child while he trains in the force.

The Title

The title of the show indicates that Din Djarin is a different kind of Mandalorian. He deserves to be singled out and have his story told. The show is not The Child and Djarin’s purpose is not to take care of the child while he trains in the force.

Djarin is The Mandalorian someone who is going to be something for Mandalore, something great.

What happened to Mandalore?

They set the stage for where Mandalore is 5 years after the fall of the Empire. They are still hiding in the sewers from the remnants of the Empire and in the shadows. This is not the Mandalore we know from The Clone Wars. The great purge of Mandlore is what put them there.

The Mandalorians are known as a very proud people and refuse to let the weak or outsiders rule. Maul had proven himself to be worthy enough to hold the darksaber, but it split the culture in half. Half were disturbed with an outsider leading, while the other half were proud to follow the strong.

All of that is over and Mandalore is desperate for a new leader. They will not be hiding in the shadows much longer and they will need to begin making a presence for themselves before the First Order begins and shuts them down before they get too big.

The Darksaber

The darksaber holds extreme significance to the Mandalorian people. Ever since the origin of the blade, it has been a symbol of power, strength, and Mandalorian pride. Now, the weapon has fallen into worse hands than Maul.

Moff Gideon has possession of the darksaber. The Mandalorians won’t follow him because he is Empire, but the fact that he has possession of the weapon is threatening enough for the people to want it back.

There has been confirmation that we will see lightsaber combat in the second season of The Mandalorian. It looks like Gideon will have an opponent to fight one on one with, but his training will not be nearly good enough to hold up against someone like Ahsoka, who is rumored to be in the next season.

The Armorer and the Tribe

The Mandalorian has introduced the armorer and a tribe hidden in the sewers of Nevarro. There we see different types of Mandalorian armorer. Different colors and different designs. But, one of the most significant is the armorer’s.

Her helmet resembles the horns of Maul’s head. Something that the Deathwatch did after Maul took the darksaber and Mandalore for his own. This shows that after the great purge they had splintered off and grouped with whoever they could.

The mismatch armor of this Mandalorian tribe signifies that they are a group of mismatch Mandalorians from all over the galaxy. It is also foreshadowing the fact that Djarin, a member of this mismatch tribe, will be able to reunite the rest of the Mandalorians and bring it back to its former glory.

Season 2 Rumors

There are so many rumors coming out lately about who will be in season 2 of The Mandalorian. Some of the biggest are Ahsoka Tano, Bo-Katan Kryze, Captain Rex, and Sabine Wren.

There is also the rumor that Boba Fett will return as well. It will be exciting to learn how he escaped the Sarlacc Pit, I’m sure Disney will come up with another explanation. The journey for season 2 is supposed to run into Jedi, more Empire, and more underworld criminals.

The protection of baby Yoda is the most important thing to date, but once Djarin meets these new characters he will learn more of his culture.

The Characters

All of these characters hold significance to Mandalore, the Rebellion, and the darksaber. Bo-Katan Kryze was the last to wield the darksaber before Gideon had taken it. Now that she will be in the next season we will be able to learn about the great purge of Mandalore and how Gideon got the saber.

Bo-Katan is the heir to the last true ruler of Mandalore. This was recognized in Rebels when Sabine gives Bo-Katan the darksaber and her rightful place to lead this newly banded together group of Mandalorian clans.

Bo-Katan and Sabine both have experience with Mandalorian politics and they will have importance in forming the new Mandalore government and re-establish what once was. Djarin will be able to team up with these experienced Mandalorians, who are are leaders of their clans.

They will be able to assist Djarin as he makes his rise to the top of the Mandalorians. An expert fighter as we’ve seen many times through the first season there is no doubt that he will be able to take Gideon to get the darksaber back.

A FAMILIAR THEME

As we all know, The Mandalorian is Star Wars. There has been a common theme found in the movies. The original trilogy hosted a group of strangers who met to save the galaxy, the sequels did the same thing. The prequels introduced a team of strangers, but with Qui-Gon’s death needing to signify the path Anakin will follow, disrupted that theme, but it was still present.

Djarin has made some trustworthy friends over the course of the first season. They can be trusted to protect the child and fight the Empire no matter what. But the impression that we get is that they won’t be returning for season 2. Cara Dune said she wanted to return to her serenity on Sorgan and Karga will go back to the guild now that the Empire has left.

He will need a new team to find and help him on his journey. The child will need a master soon and Ahsoka will be that figure. Bo-Katan and Sabine will be the ones to help inspire Djarin to become the new leader of Mandalore and unite the scattered tribes from around the galaxy.

A LONG JOURNEY

The journey that this will take us on will be a long one. The idea of finding help, training baby Yoda, and uniting the Mandalorians will fit with the planned 6 seasons of the show. Djarin in season 2 will likely find Ahsoka who will train the child and Bo-Katan and Sabine Wren to introduce him to other Mandalorians.

He witnessed firsthand who has the darksaber and what Gideon’s position was in the great purge. He will be able to rally the found Mandalorians and inspire them to join his cause. The end of the great Mandalorian people has not come and the great purge did not wipe them out.

Similar to how the Jedi will begin to rise again, the Mandalorians will, too. Djarin will be the one to lead them back to the top and unite them once again.

What do you think will happen in The Mandalorian to come? Do you think Djarin holds this much importance or do you think that he is just another bounty hunter who just found the child? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Mandalore the Chrome? Mandalore the Shiney? O_o

    😀 😀 😀

I can’t rule this one out as both Disney and Star Wars have a history of characters that are sort of Mary Sue. An army of Princesses, Anakin, Rey, etc…

HOWEVER… Djarin is very much a character in line with Conan or one of Clint Eastwood’s spaghetti western characters. They don’t rule, they kick butt, set things right and then ride off into the sunset to the next butt kicking. Minsc and Boo approve! LOL.

Conan did eventually settle down and rule Aquillonia, but he ended up quickly hating it and the stories were not that great either compared to the free range Conan stuff. Hopefully Disney writers are taking that into account.

*MY* guess would be if anything, Djarin is going to be the Sabine here and put Bo back in power with Ahsoka’s help, Maybe then he plays not so secret agent to protect and rebuild Mandalore in between changing diapers and collecting bounties. 😀

You COULD be right though. We’ll see how it turns out. Should be interesting either way.

    1. I had an idea that He will help Bo similar to how Sabine did but that didn’t work out in Rebels (clearly) so I’m thinking Bo isn’t going to be as willing as she once was.
I dig the point of Mando being so much like those other westerns and his personality so far doesn’t see like he’d be the one to rule but I think there will be a few more disasters (like his clan being wiped out in the sewers) that will push him to pick up the darksaber and lead his people. But, if not, then that’s ok. He’s still a badass and it would be cool to be able to follow him traveling the galaxy for 5-6 seasons. I just feel like that might tire out after 3-4

      1. ANY direction the show takes will depend upon world building and character development to keep moving forward. Star Wars has a VAST universe and deep history as well, thanks to Bioware. The potential is there to keep running a LONG time.

Riddle me THIS though, Batmando… 😀 WHAT IF… The Moff turns out to be a legit Mandalorian or just takes control the way Maul did? O_O There’s an angle for a few seasons of conflict, OR since everything Mandolorian the last few years has been redemption and honor themed, what if the future plot involves converting the Moff to the ways of the Mandalorian and having him renounce the Empire? O_O It could be all the more interesting if the off turns out to be Force sensitive or a closet Sith like Jar Jar. 😀

        1. That would be really interesting to see. I just think after the great purge and everything that happened the Mandalorian people won’t be too keen about following Moff and his Empire ways. Would love to see him turn out to be something even bigger though

          1. VERY slow getting back to things, thanks to the disaster our move was. At any rate, I was mainly thinking out loud there with my writer’s hat on; what would I do if I wanted to throw a real twist into the show and tie some meaning to the Moff having the Darksaber.

Whatever comes, it will be interesting. 🙂

  2. Well, you were certainly right about Din Djarin defeating Gideon for the Darksaber!
